When I started learning about Google Adsense, I wondered how I was to earn through my website using Adsense. Having experimented with placing Adsense codes onto my webpages, and numerous attempts to test and tweak the layout, I have to say that it is possible to really make BIG money from your websites.
There are several key factors that will affect how much money you can make with Adsense. First, let's make sure that we understand how Adsense work. Really quickly, Google's Adsense program brings together advertisers and online publishers (or website owners). Advertisers pay Google for traffic/clicks generated from websites, and Google allows publishers to place advertisers' ads onto their websites. When someone clicks on an ad on the publisher's website, the advertiser pays Google for that click, and Google in turn shares that revenue with the publisher. Sounds simple? Okay, let's continue.
Now, how much you will make per click is dependent on the type of websites you have. If you have a website targeting the mortgage industry, you know that advertisers in this industry pay A LOT for that one click, thus your revenue share with Google will also be a nice chunk of change. Therefore it is "smart" to build your website around a topic or industry where advertisers compete fiercely. However, the caveat to that would be it will most likely be very difficult for you to drive traffic to your own website as well. Which is the next factor that affects your Adsense earning.
What good is a website if no one knows about it? Your website must provide some value to your visitors, otherwise, your traffic will not "stick" What I means is if you have a website providing excellent, useful content to your visitors, all of a sudden you will get repeat visitors, referral visitors, and even search engine traffic. So the rule of thumb to increasing your website traffic is to make sure that your website provides solid, useful content (Don't you feel you have learned something in this article already?). So one word of advice, don't focus too much on how much your Adsense ad will pay out, be sure to publish your webpages with your visitors in mind.
The next big thing is conversion rate. Study has shown that if you make your Adsense ad block stand out from the rest of your webpage, most people will NOT click on it. Best practice is to blend your ad block along with your content, make it flow, make it the same color schemes as the rest of your webpage. For example, if you use red hyperlinks on your webpage, make Adsense's ad links red as well. You will want to match your webpage as close to the adsense ad block as possible, or vice versa (Although I do not think you can change the font size and type other than the ones Google gives you).
